The Clairol brand had begun to feel a bit like "your mother's hair color." It needed an attitude makeover, with an updated positioning to capture modern women's evolving views about themselves and the meaning of beauty. This campaign features real women -- identified and profiled in each ad -- expressing their feelings with confidence and sass.

Gevalia had become the victim of its own early success: becoming "the coffee brand that gives away the coffeemaker." As America's taste and thirst for coffee grew more sophisticated, the brand needed to be repositioned to leverage its European heritage and emphasize its sensory appetite appeal. A bold departure visually and strategically, this fully integrated direct marketing approach succeeded in doubling brand awareness and won an Effie Award for marketing effectiveness.
